Energy Storage Systems (ESS)

Energy storage systems (ESS) consist of technologies that allow energy time-shifting by storing energy at times of surplus and releasing it at times of deficit; balancing the energy demand and supply and enabling more efficient energy use.

Energy storage systems are key pillars in current energy transition pathways that depend on continuously growing renewable energy use such as solar and wind energy that rely primarily on weather conditions, making them intermittent energy supply sources.
